Florida College Access Network (FCAN) released today a preview of the top budget priorities and policy proposals that stand to affect the state’s college students during 2018 Florida Legislative Session, which begins tomorrow, January 9.

The legislative preview includes a brief outline of bills filed to date by members of the Florida Senate and House of Representatives, which include reforms to Florida College System governance, increases to performance-based funding to public colleges and universities, and changes to Bright Futures and other state financial aid programs.

“Higher education remains a high priority for state leaders and policymakers as we head into 2018,” said Troy Miller, FCAN’s associate director for research and policy.  “All Florida students are deserving of a path to the education and skills needed to attain a high-quality postsecondary credential and get a good job.”

The 2018 Florida Legislative Preview is the first in a series of releases FCAN has planned during session to track policy updates related to college and career readiness, access and success.
