Florida CAN is thrilled to congratulate Sarah Owen, President and CEO of the Southwest Florida Community Foundation, on being named News-Press Media Group’s 2015 Person of the Year at an award ceremony on February 18th.
Sarah Owen is honored, in part, for championing the FutureMakers Coalition, a local college access network dedicated to transforming the Southwest Florida workforce by increasing college degree and postsecondary certification completion in Southwest Florida from 27 percent to 40 percent by the year 2025.
“Coalition building is like change: difficult at the beginning, messy in the middle, glorious at the end. We’re probably at the messy middle part,” Owen said in regards to the initiative in a News-Press article.
The prestigious award is presented annually to a Southwest Florida resident who exemplifies generosity and a commitment to the local community.
