Located in Southwest Florida, just 35 miles east of Naples, Immokalee is home to a large agricultural community where many families suffer intergenerational poverty and very low educational attainment. By partnering with Collier County Public Schools, Florida Gulf Coast University, local businesses, and government organizations, the Foundation equips underrepresented students with the skills, certifications, and support needed to thrive in high-demand careers—creating a ripple effect that strengthens both families and the regional economy.

Through this program:

  • Middle schoolers explore career options and develop career action plans.
  • High schoolers earn industry certifications and complete paid internships.
  • 100% of students graduate and pursue postsecondary education, careers, or military service.
  • 93% complete an advanced certification or degree, with nearly 90% securing a bachelor’s degree or higher.

At Florida College Access Network’s (FCAN) Talent Strong Florida Summit (May 5-7, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Report in Orlando), leaders from The Immokalee Foundation will showcase how strategic community collaboration fosters student success, strengthens Florida’s workforce, and fuels economic growth.

“By investing in student success, we are investing in Florida’s future,” said Braulio Colón, FCAN’s executive director. “Collaborations like The Immokalee Foundation’s Career Pathways program demonstrate how education and workforce alignment can drive meaningful prosperity for individuals and entire communities.”

The Immokalee Foundation’s success stems from a holistic approach that includes career exploration, hands-on learning, and financial support for postsecondary education.

“Education is the most powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty,” said Walt Buchholtz, Career Pathways Strategist at The Immokalee Foundation. “With the right guidance, resources, and hands-on experience, students graduate not only with credentials but also with the confidence and connections needed to thrive in their careers.”

At a time when 80% of Florida’s future jobs will require a postsecondary credential, initiatives like Career Pathways are essential for removing barriers, fostering economic mobility, and building a resilient workforce.

Join us at the Talent Strong Florida Summit to learn how this model of community collaboration can be scaled to empower students and strengthen Florida’s economy.
