According to a recent study by Intern Bridge, internships are the first work experience for 84% of students, and their top motivator in seeking internships is to “gain hands-on experience in my field.” Business and education also agree on the benefits of internships in building student employability skills. So why aren’t internships more widely available?
In the second part of FCAN’s Lost in Translation webinar series, Michael Dalby, President and CEO of the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce, will share how business and education often speak different languages that can lead to misperceptions. Kathy McDonald, FCAN’s Assistant Director for Network Partnerships, will host Mr. Dalby and Lynn Chisholm, Director of Internships and Career Readiness at USF, for a lively discussion on how both sectors can strengthen internship opportunities by understanding employer needs and using a common language.
