HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR FAFSA TRAINING:
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO HELP YOUR STUDENTS

Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is one opportunity to make college more affordable for eligible students. For the 2024-25 FAFSA, students, families, and practitioners can expect changes that include less questions, new terminology, and consent requirements due to the FAFSA Simplification Act.

With the new calculations and Student Aid Index (SAI) formula, more students are expected to be eligible for Pell grants – money that does not have to be paid back. According to the U.S. Department of Education, it is expected that there will be an increase of more than 44,000 Pell grant recipients in Florida. The FAFSA qualifies students for federal grants, federal loans and federal work study. It’s also used to award state grants, need-based state scholarships, institutional grants, and institutional loans.

This free FAFSA training for high school counselors will provide detailed information to guide students and families in completing the FAFSA. Learn more about specific scenarios, FSA ID requirements, and which parent to include when completing the form.
