Did you know that 4 out of 5 Florida college students rely on federal, state, and school-based aid to attend college? Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the best way to make college affordable for the vast majority of Florida students, yet Florida currently ranks 48th in FAFSA completion.

In order to ensure Florida is talent strong, all Floridians must have access to education or training beyond high school. To help students access all of the financial aid they qualify for, Florida College Access Network (FCAN) created the Florida FAFSA Challenge, a statewide campaign to increase the percentage of 12th graders who complete the FAFSA.

Today, FCAN is pleased to announce the release of this year’s Florida FAFSA Challenge dashboard, which provides school, district, and state-level data on high school seniors who have completed the FAFSA to date during the 2022-23 school year, as part of the 2023-24 FAFSA cycle. The data can be used by counselors and student support staff to guide how best to support students at their school with completing the federal form.

The 2022-23 Florida FAFSA Challenge runs through March 31, 2023,and encourages schools and districts to increase the number of students completing a FAFSA by 5% or more compared to the previous year. Early completion is important for students to qualify for aid that is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Florida FAFSA Challenge recognizes the top-performing schools and districts in the following categories:

  • MVP — Highest FAFSA completion rate through April 1, 2023
  • Most Improved — Highest increase in FAFSA completion compared to previous year through April 1, 2023

We will also again recognize FAFSA Champions, which includes all schools and districts that increase their FAFSA completion rate by at least 5% compared to last school year.
