After 63 days of Florida’s Legislative Session, lawmakers have passed 275 bills and a record-breaking $112.1 billion budget, supporting a variety of new and continued initiatives. An extension of FCAN’s recently-published Legislative Session Recap, join us as we hear from two policymakers who championed legislation that will continue to build a Talent Strong Florida.
First, we’ll hear from Senator Keith Perry (R – Gainesville) as he shares the intended impact of Senate Bill 722: Education for Student Inmates. Usually an overlooked population, you’ll then have the opportunity to ask questions on how this will help individuals in Florida’s correctional system receive educational services.
Representative Amber Mariano (R – Hudson) will provide us with insight into the various changes highlighted in Senate Bill 7044: Postsecondary Education. Signed into law on April 19 by Governor DeSantis, this bill provides additional assistance for students on textbook affordability and tuition transparency.
Please get your questions ready! When our special guests conclude their speaking portions, we’ll quickly highlight some budget details and provide time for you to ask them about these pieces of legislation that stand to impact postsecondary education across Florida.
