“That level of personal attention and having the personal touch to really understand why they stop out and how we can re-engage them to get them to come back to our institution was very important for all of us to learn.”
Each year, an average of 1,000 students step away from Florida Gulf Coast University.
In early 2020, FGCU launched the “Return to the Nest” program to intentionally re-engage with this cohort of former students and support them on the pathway to degree completion.
During the 2022 Talent Strong Florida Summit, two presenters from FGCU will share some lessons learned and early returns, including the number of degrees the university has awarded to these former students in just one year. Dr. Aysegul Timur, FGCU’s Vice President and Vice Provost for Strategy and Program Innovation, and Kristen Vanselow, Assistant Vice President for Innovative Education and Partnerships at FGCU, will lead a session titled, “Return to the Nest: Bringing Eagles Back to FGCU.”
In the latest episode of FCAN’s Summit Speaker Series podcast, Aysegul and Kristen discuss the Return to the Nest program’s origins and inspiration, as well as how the university is addressing some of the barriers to degree completion that their former students have encountered.
