In addition to helping high school students complete at least one application to the postsecondary institution of their choice, the most recent wave of Apply Yourself Florida festivities were marked by prize drawings, “I Applied” stickers, and much more.
Apply Yourself Florida is part of the American College Application Campaign, a nationwide effort to increase the number of low-income and first-generation students applying to college. The campaign is also part of College Ready Florida, a suite of statewide initiatives established by Florida College Access Network (FCAN) to help students continue their education beyond high school.
This year, 232 Florida schools in 23 districts hosted Apply Yourself Florida events, a 52% increase from last year. These schools have helped at least 18,000 students submit more than 20,000 college applications during their events.
FCAN also provided updated resources and materials for host sites that held Apply Yourself Florida events throughout the fall. In addition to new site coordinator guides and toolkits, FCAN distributed more than 100,000 “I Applied” stickers in 19 counties, as well as more than 700 Apply Yourself Florida posters in 14 counties.
To share some of the sights, sounds, and social media buzz of 2017 Apply Yourself Florida, we have created a Storify reel that captures some of the highlights from college application events from throughout the state.
