FCAN is thrilled to introduce you to five exceptional individuals joining the FCAN team. Each new member brings unique skills, experiences, and a deep passion that will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in furthering FCAN’s mission to improve college access and success for all students. With the addition of these talented individuals, FCAN and our partners are more equipped than ever to realize this mission and make a lasting impact on the lives of Florida’s students.

Dave Sobush
Director of Research and Policy

Dave Sobush joined FCAN in 2023. Dave holds a Master of Business Administration from University of South Florida, a Master of Education, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida. In his previous role at the Florida Chamber Foundation, Dave was responsible for overseeing various research projects and headed up the Florida 2030 Blueprint Caucus. Dave brings deep experience in data analysis, public policy, and more. Additionally, he was involved with the International Economic Development Council, the Florida Economic Development Council, and the National Association for Business Economics.

Sandra Roa

Sandra Cristina Roa joined FCAN in 2023. She is a first-generation college graduate and alumna from the City University of New York, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in fine arts and master’s degree in journalism. With a life-long passion for multimedia storytelling, Sandra brings a unique perspective to her communication strategies, aiming to foster meaningful connections between the public sector, communities, and individuals. Sandra’s academic interests and expertise are in examining the representations of marginalized communities, using media for advocacy, and writing personal narratives. She is pursuing her doctoral degree in communication at University of South Florida.

Cuiyun Liu
Research Analyst

Cuiyun Liu joined FCAN in 2023. Her past research has encompassed various student benefits, such as Pedagogy of student’s character formation and classroom assessment. Formerly a high school teacher for over a decade, her overarching goal is to enhance college access through data analysis. She holds a master’s degree in research and evaluation methods from Boston College, as well as a master’s degree in education. In her free time, Cuiyun enjoys cooking, jogging, and spending time with her husband and friends.

Jessica Miller
Research Analyst

Jessica Miller joined FCAN in 2023, and plans to leverage her expertise from her dissertation on ESL education and five years of regulatory policy analysis with the Florida Public Service Commission in her role. She has a Doctorate of Education from the University of Florida, a master’s degree in library and information science from Florida State University, and a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from American University. She also spent five years as a children’s and teen librarian at the Alachua County Library District, specializing in early literacy initiatives and teen mentoring programs. Jessica enjoys spending time with her pets, working on her Spanish, and enjoying the many beaches in the Tampa Bay area, home to her family for over five generations.

Olivia Gonzalez
Administrative Specialist

Olivia Gonzalez joined FCAN in 2023. She is a first-generation college student currently completing a bachelor’s degree in political science. As a first-generation American as well, Olivia is passionate about immigrant rights and Latinx advocacy. She recognizes the importance of access to education in the collective fight towards equality. In her spare time, Olivia finds comfort and inspiration from the world of art, indulging in her love for painting. She also cherishes spending quality time with her family at the beach.

Their addition to our team marks an exciting new chapter in our journey to support communities engaged in collaborative work and in our effort to grow and diversify our network in support of Florida’s students.
