Preparing students for the future workforce requires vision, innovation, and strong partnerships—qualities that Renee Hough, Career and Technical Education (CTE) Director for Putnam County Schools, has brought to the forefront of the district’s success.

Since stepping into her leadership role in 2013, Hough has spearheaded the development of training programs designed to give students direct access to high-demand career pathways. Because of these efforts, Hough was honored during the Talent Strong Florida Summit by the Florida College Access Network (FCAN) as the 2025 Workforce Education Innovator.

Under Hough’s leadership, the district has launched several academies, including an Advanced Manufacturing Academy, a Firefighter/EMT Academy, and three Building Construction Academies—one for each high school in the district. Most recently, Renee introduced an Aeronautics Academy, expanding opportunities for students to explore careers in aviation and aerospace.

In the past year, she has deepened collaboration with the local Chamber of Commerce’s Economic Development team to identify industries with the greatest need for a future-ready workforce. This approach ensures that students are being trained in areas that offer career potential and long-term job security.

One of Hough’s initiatives has involved working with Space Florida, a state organization focused on the growing aerospace industry. Together, they are crafting innovative strategies to align existing CTE programs—such as welding and building construction—with the specific needs of Florida’s space sector.

By connecting students with industry-relevant skills Hough is not only transforming CTE in the district but also helping build the local workforce.

Congratulations to FCAN’s 2025 Workforce Education Innovator!
