In alignment with the Florida College Access Network’s (FCAN) College Ready Florida initiatives, Elevation Scholars has emerged as a statewide leader in preparing high-achieving, high-need students for success in higher education.
Through strategic, data-driven programs and unwavering commitment, Elevation Scholars is transforming college access for underrepresented youth—starting as early as 9th grade. This impactful work was honored at the Talent Strong Florida Summit, where Elevation Scholars was recognized the 2025 College Ready Florida Innovator.
A Comprehensive Approach to College Readiness
Elevation Scholars, led by President Aminah Harris, offers a two-pronged model focused on High School Programming and the Elevation Scholar Award.
Beginning in early high school, Elevation Scholars partners with local schools to deliver monthly programming that closes information gaps related to college admissions. These sessions include college bootcamps, workshops, service projects, and more—all designed to build a college-going culture and empower students with the tools and confidence they need to pursue higher education.
Personalized Admissions Coaching and College Success Support
A highlight of the organization’s work is the Elevation Scholar Award, a five-year commitment valued at $25,000 per student.
Selected during their junior year, award recipients are paired with a dedicated college admissions coach—a trained expert who works closely with each student on every aspect of the college application process. This includes ACT/SAT test prep, essay development, and application strategy, ensuring students are matched with institutions that align with their academic goals and personal aspirations.
The support doesn’t end at high school graduation. From Year 2 through Year 5, scholars receive comprehensive college success coaching designed to guide them through the entire college journey. Each scholar is paired with a college success coach who checks in monthly throughout their college years to offer guidance and encouragement. Support includes transition-to-college retreats, major and course planning, assistance securing internships, and preparation for post-graduate opportunities.
In addition, financial resources are available to reduce out-of-pocket college expenses such as airfare, textbooks, winter clothing, and other essentials.
Through this robust support system, Elevation Scholars have persisted and thrived at colleges across the country—from Harvard to UF, Duke to USC, and more than 20 other top institutions in between.
Leading the Charge in FAFSA Completion
Understanding the critical role of financial aid in college access, Elevation Scholars has made FAFSA completion a key pillar of its strategy. The team provides hands-on workshops, resources, and one-on-one assistance to ensure students and families understand and complete the FAFSA process. These efforts have led to a 100% FAFSA completion rate among scholars.
Celebrating Postsecondary Success
Elevation Scholars also places a strong emphasis on recognizing and celebrating student achievement. Its annual Awards Ceremony honors scholars’ postsecondary commitments and inspires younger students. These celebrations reinforce a culture that values education, community impact, and long-term success.
Proven Results
Through these outcomes, Elevation Scholars has proven itself not only as an essential partner in advancing FCAN’s College Ready Florida goals, but also as a major support for the students it serves.
Congratulations to FCAN’s 2025 College Ready Florida Innovator!
