Florida’s 2025 legislative session adjourned on Monday, June 16, with lawmakers passing a $115.1 billion budget, supporting a variety of new and continued initiatives.

Major changes include a new funding structure for accelerated courses such as Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement and the elimination of the Certificate of Completion from the education code.

  • House Bill 1255: This large education bill carried by Senator Calatayud in the upper Chamber as Senate Bill 1618 was signed into law by the Governor on May 30th. Highlights include:
    • Embeds instruction on FAFSA within the Financial Literacy course curriculum high school students are required to take for graduation
    • Expands Bright Futures eligibility for certain students of military or public service families
  • Senate Bill 2510: Establishes a new funding structure for high school accelerated program funding, and makes changes to CAPE for the 2025-2026 fiscal year
  • The fiscal year 2025-2026 budget: Includes $3.9 billion for the State University System operating funds, $1.68 billion for the Florida College System, and no tuition increases
