Since July 1, 2026, Workforce Pell has opened federal grant funding to students pursuing short-term training in high-skill, high-wage and in-demand fields, from public safety to health sciences to skilled trades. Accessing that funding still starts with the FAFSA. This session covers what’s changed with the FAFSA process this cycle, which short-term programs currently qualify for Workforce Pell, how the certification process affects when aid becomes available, and what practitioners are learning as funding reaches students statewide.

Osceola Prosper: Inside Florida’s Fastest-Rising College-Going County

FCAN will present findings from its case study of Osceola Prosper, the tuition-free college and technical training initiative that has helped move Osceola County from 61st to 3rd in college-going rates among Florida’s 67 counties since 2010. Launched by the Osceola County Commission in 2022, the program has served more than 10,500 students, with over 1,400 earning associate degrees through Valencia College and nearly 1,800 completing certifications through Osceola Technical College. The session will examine what has driven the program’s results and what other Florida communities can adapt from its model.
