“In college, that’s where folks are learning who they are. That’s where folks are finding out who their tribe is and where they want to take their lives. And especially being LGBTQ, a lot of us face particular disparities, and there’s a lot of anxiety going into college.”

While all students face challenges in their college and career decision-making, LGBTQ youth face even more systemic barriers. In addition to navigating typical college and career experiences, these students often encounter discrimination and challenges due to their gender identity and sexual orientation.

A pair of presenters from Equality Florida will soon share some of the ways that advocates can support these students on their college and career journeys: Nikole Parker, Director of Transgender Equality, and Andrew Lent, Healthcare Equity Trainer, will lead a session titled, “Supporting the Unique Needs of LGBTQ Students in College and Career,” at the 2022 Talent Strong Florida Summit.

In the latest episode of FCAN’s Summit Speaker Series podcast, Nikole and Andrew discussed their own professional and postsecondary journeys while outlining some of the barriers faced by LGBTQ youth. Listen to the episode now!
